Being overweight, very overweight, was always part of my life and I can recall weighing over 200 pounds in my early teen years. I’ve never worn the “cute” clothes, played in team sports, or done anything else that required any degree of physical fitness. So, finding myself at the age of 42 and weighing 260 pounds, I decided that I was tired of life passing me by. I decided that it was time to get my life back - time to stop feeling tired, time for my feet to stop hurting, and time to stop being so hot all the time. Unfortunately, I was confident that I wouldn’t find anything that would work for me.
In my research, I learned of New Lifestyle Diet. Though I’ve not done a true liquid diet before, it piqued my interest. I then found the Liquid Diet Discussion Board and began reading. Real life people, with real life issues similar to mine were doing this and succeeding.
Decision made –one last try to get my weight under control with New Lifestyle. I started my “diet” on July 2, 2007 and have never looked back. My schedule is different than most of the world since I work nights and the access to support 24/7 with an online program is just what I was looking for. I don’t have to plan my life around going to meetings or checking in at a clinic. I love that I’m not hungry. I love that the program is nutritionally sound. I love that I still get to eat “real” food if I choose. But, most of all, I love that it works! Have there been tough days? You bet. Have there been days when I wanted to quit? No. Why? Because it works!
So far I’ve lost 75 pounds in about seven months. Seven months to lose weight that has been with me more than 20 years. Seven months to get my life back! I still have 30 pounds to go to reach my goal. Will I make it? I’m sure I will. How long will it take? I don’t know, and it doesn’t matter because each and every day I’m learning how to handle my eating and create the lifestyle that will help me maintain my weight—for the rest of my life. When I began, I was really hoping to lose some weight. What I got was so much more. I’ve lost weight, and gained the tools to help me keep it off forever. There will be bumps in the road ahead. I’ll always have to watch my relationship with food, but I can now face these challenges knowing I have the knowledge and skills to get through these bumps successfully.
My goals have changed. Instead of just making it through the next day, my life will be filled with victories, both small and large. I’m comfortable in my body. I can fit into seating wherever I go. I can spend all day at the park or shopping and not be tired. I plan to travel more, go hang gliding and zip lining….things that were never open to me before due to my weight. I want to do it all! I’ve now got the confidence and the energy to take on whatever comes my way.
